Entered service in 1955. U.S. pilots who flew against the MiG-19 in Vietnam reported that it performed generally better than the previous MiG-17, but it lacked a bit of its predecessor's agility. It was faster, however, and was eventually fitted with missiles. Its toughness and simplicity combined with respectable engine power make it an ideal attack aircraft for smaller air forces.
